16 Days campaign : CWS and Tearfund partners hold together against VAW

Thahanagar : To raise awareness about violence against women, activists under the project  run by TEARFUND  and its four partner organizations organized motorcycle rally through the streets of Thaha municipality of  Makawanpur  on Tuesday.

Child Welfare Society(CWS) had arranged the ride to create the awareness about the issue. The exercise was a part of “16 Days Campaign”, a campaign on eliminating violence against women. They moved from Tearfund Office Thahabazar  towards Sikharkot Chowk and ended the rally reaching at TF office again.

Before motorcycle rally all the staff of Tearfund, CWS, RADO, MRC and CEEDF Nepal had gathered at the ground of TF office and expressed solidarity together  stopping violence with the slogan "Peace in the home to peace in the world: stand together against violence". All the activists with wearing white ribbons printed their palms and signed in the banner of 16 days campaign.

Speaking in the program Kumar Negi, Project coordinator of CWS said, "Now we are focusing on men’s commitment to play their role in ending violence against women."  The campaign aims at creating widespread awareness and engaging men to take action by not keeping their eyes and ears closed towards injustice being meted out to women around them.

In the mean time Mukund KC, TF area coordinator appreciated the participants who came out to support the cause. He pointed to focus on such spirit and enthusiasm, which had been  shown at that day by all partner organization staff, to spread awareness to end domestic violence.

Rajan Dahal from RADO, Suvas Shrestha from MRC as well as Bimal Ojha from CEEDF had expressed their commitments stopping violence and spoke that their activities had been supporting to stop violence against women directly and indirectly. CWS, the program organizer, is a lead organization in protection sector.

In between the program community protection mobilizers(CPM) of CWS had performed a street drama against women violence. The drama had announced the message against early child marriage and  domestic violence as well.

The four NGOs are implementing an integrated project of TEARFUND in Aagra and Tistung VDCs of Makawanpur.

The 16 days of activism against gender-based violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day.
